Download Interview Yen from the App Store or Google Play. Open the app, grant microphone permission, and tap Start. The app begins capturing audio immediately using 16kHz PCM recording with voice activity detection, chunking speech into optimized 8-20 second segments for real-time transcription.
As your interview progresses, the transcript builds in real time via Whisper AI. Our intent classifier scores every sentence across six categories — coding, behavioral, system design, conceptual, follow-up, and general — and triggers AI analysis the moment a question is detected. No buttons to press, no modes to switch.
Answers appear on your screen as they're generated via streaming server-sent events. Coding problems get step-by-step solutions with working code and complexity analysis. Behavioral questions activate live STAR coaching with section tracking and timed nudges. System design questions get component breakdowns with trade-offs.
Audio is captured continuously and sent to our self-hosted Whisper AI server for transcription. Voice activity detection ensures clean segment boundaries. Words appear on screen in real time with automatic deduplication across overlapping segments.
Every sentence is scored across six interview categories: coding, behavioral, system design, conceptual, follow-up, and general. The classifier uses keyword-pattern scoring on the last 500 characters of transcript with a confidence threshold, so analysis fires precisely when a new question arrives.
Powered by Qwen 2.5, responses stream to your device via server-sent events as they're generated. Each intent type has a specialized system prompt: coding gets structured solutions with code blocks, behavioral gets STAR frameworks, system design gets component diagrams and trade-off analysis.
When a behavioral question is detected, the copilot activates a real-time STAR tracker. It monitors your response using local keyword classification, tracks which sections you've covered (Situation, Task, Action, Result), shows a running timer, and delivers contextual nudges every 15 seconds to keep your answer structured and complete.
Detected coding problems and technical questions are pinned to the top of your screen with the full problem statement and AI-generated solution. Dismiss when you're done and the copilot resets context for the next question.
Export your full transcript and all AI-generated notes as a structured document. Review detected questions, solutions, and coaching feedback after your interview to identify areas for improvement.

Your interview data stays private and under your control at all times.
Audio segments are sent to our Whisper server over HTTPS, transcribed in memory, and immediately discarded. Raw audio is never written to disk or stored on our servers. The only thing that persists is the text transcript — on your device.
Transcripts and AI analysis exist only in your app session memory. When you close the app or end a session, all content is cleared. There is no server-side history of your interviews.
Account authentication is handled by AWS Cognito with JWT tokens. We never store passwords. Tokens are refreshed automatically and stored securely on your device using platform-native secure storage.
Your interview content is never shared with InterviewZen or any third party. The two products operate on completely separate infrastructure. Insights that flow between products are architectural, never personal.
Interview Yen follows privacy-by-design principles and complies with GDPR and CCPA requirements for data handling and user rights. You can delete your account at any time.
